The Chocolate Samosa is a great treat any time of the year, but what better time to enjoy them than in February – you could make these to impress your Valentine’s Day date, or get some friends together and make Chocolate Samosas as part of your Galentine’s Day fun.

A samosa is an incredibly traditional Indian food that’s as versatile as the country of origin itself. The flavours and fillings can vary from place to place, with the triangular shape and the crusty pastry being the main constants.

Without a doubt, samosas are a classic Indian food that most will have tried in some form. Whether you grew up enjoying every flavour of samosa, or have only ever tried a couple savoury options, this chocolate samosa recipe is easy to make and a game-changer for your post-curry dessert.

Chocolate Samosa – Indian Dessert, Prep Time 30mins, Cook Time 16mins.

What you will need:

  • Pre-made pie crust (any brand works)
  • 1 egg (whisked with 1 tablespoon water)
  • 1 cup khoya milk solids
  • ½ cup sliced almonds
  • ¼ cup golden raisins
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • 4 cardamom pods
  • Chocolate (your favourite brand, or some cooking chocolate chips)

How to:

  1. To create the filling, mix the khoya, sugar, almonds, raisins, cardamom pods and milk in a bowl until smooth and evenly distributed.
  2. Preheat oven to 220 celsius (420 F)
  3. Roll out the pie dough to ⅛ thickness, shave sides into a square shape, then cut that square into 6 equal squares.
  4. Add two tablespoons of the mixed filling to the centre of the square, lift one edge and fold it over, joining to the adjacent edge to make a triangle. Pinch the edges with back of a fork to seal the open ends.
  5. Line them on a baking sheet and lightly brush the surface with the egg wash.
  6. Bake in the oven for 15-18 minutes, until golden.
  7. While the samosas cool, melt the chocolate in the microwave.
  8. Drizzle melted chocolate on the samosas (or use it for dipping them into).
  9. Eat warm or swerve with ice cream, and enjoy!

This recipe is sure to be a crowd pleaser, whether you are entertaining friends or looking to impress a Valentine’s Day date.
